Our Son, Charlie
“With life’s many twists and turns, my wife and I were unfortunately introduced to the world of medical equipment as parents at an early age. Our second son, Charlie, was born with severe epilepsy and autism. As if the autism was not enough of a diagnosis, it was really the epilepsy that was debilitating. Little did I know back in those early days that someday I would start a company that manufactured the EEG leadsets used as part of Charlie’s medical regime. It was during those early and subsequent years that our family began to appreciate, value, and, in Charlie’s case, rely on a host of medical devices that dramatically affected and impacted his day-to-day life.
It is this personal connection to the medical device community that serves as the very foundation of Global Interconnect and is what continues to inspire our continued growth and passion for helping medical OEMs around the world.
Over the past 23 years, I can say with tremendous pride that our team of world-wide employees has played an important part in helping to improve the lives of millions of patients and their families. In partnership with medical OEMs across the globe, our connectors and assemblies have been used in a wide spectrum of life changing procedures performed on women, men, children and infants. Such examples include the use of our assemblies in over 2 million endometrial ablation procedures that have dramatically affected the comfort, confidence and quality of life of these women. Over 500,000 minimally invasive surgeries performed on men using our cable assemblies on convective water vapor technology to improve LUTS, urine flow, quality of life and preservation of sexual function. Localization procedures in excess of 55,000 using critical Global Interconnect connectors to mark tumors, biopsy sites and lymph nodes prior to neoadjuvant therapy. Over 30,000,000 EEG’s have been performed with our assemblies providing valuable feedback and data for future prognosis and 15,500,000 babies have been welcomed into the world utilizing our disposable and reusable skin temperature assemblies. These are just a few examples of the complex, diverse and life influencing assemblies and connectors that GII is supplying to the medical community on a daily basis.
Sadly, and unexpectedly, our son Charlie passed away in 2011 at the age of 23 from SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy). Our hearts were broken and the fragility of human life became a reality, but this tragic event has and continues to serve as a driving force in our organization today. Our ability to help other companies and entrepreneurs bring new medical products to market, improve those products or make them more cost-effective to satisfy today’s challenging environment is exceptionally rewarding. The ability to positively impact the end patient is something our employees take immense responsibility and pride in, for which I am incredibly grateful.”
